Obituary

DURHAM, JR., W. E. (Rusty) Hendersonville, TN -- Age 47 Thursday, August 21, 2003. Rusty grew up in Madison, attended Gallatin Road Baptist Church, accepted Christ at age 10, was active in youth activities, graduated from Madison High School in 1974, went to Volunteer State and Tennessee Tech. He worked at W. R. Durham and Sons throughout school days, where he later became the General Manager. He worked with the Sumner County Sheriff's Auxiliary for a number of years, where he met Lesa Jo Rippy. They were married in 1988. They have two sons, Jacob, 12 and Lucas, 7. Early, the family attended church at Roberts Tabernacle in Westmoreland, then they later joined Hendersonville First Baptist Church. He enjoyed coaching little league baseball, fishing, boating and activities with his family. He had battled cancer for the past fourteen months. He is survived by his wife, Lesa; and sons, Jacob and Lucas. He is also survived by his parents, Earl and Ann Durham, Hendersonville; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Norman and Charlotte Rippy, Westmoreland; brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Kelly Durham, Nashville; sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Bob Sanders, Chattanooga; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tracy and Suzanne Rippy, Westmoreland; nieces, Michelle Carter and husband Wesley, Gallatin, Suzanne Bayne and husband Allard, Cleveland TN and Chastity and Scott Pilcher, Stephanie Warren and Megan Warren of Westmoreland. He has a nephew, Brian Sanders, Chattanooga; two great-nephews, Christopher Bayne, Cleveland TN and Trenton Pilcher, as well as a great-niece, Melissa Pilcher. He is deeply loved by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 23, 2003 at Hendersonville First Baptist Church, with Dr. Glen Weekley and Rev. Tim McCaleb officiating. Visitation will be at Hendersonville Funeral Home Friday, August 22, 2003, 2 p.m. til 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. til 8 p.m.. Active Pallbearers: Randy Durham, Bob Sanders, Brian Sanders, Wesley Carter, Tracy Rippy, Bubba Gowan, Martin Cross and Tony Wingert. Honorary Pallbearers: Billy Grizzard, Graylon Lawson, Mike Parkenson, Jimmy Oakley, Wesley Maynard, Anthony Durham, Eddie Durham, Rick Durham, Sanders Gammons, Bob Doris, Charlie Lyons and employees of W. R. Durham and Sons Lumber Company. He will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society for Sarcoma Research.
